Shi’ite protesters invade Abuja and demand El-Zakzaky’s passport be released

The leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, has a travel ban that protesters demanded President Muhammadu Buhari lift on Thursday in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

The release of El-Zakzaky and his wife Malama Zeenah’s international passports for a medical trip was demanded by the protesters, who are thought to be followers of the Shi’ite leader.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier on Thursday denied Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky’s request that the Department of State Services release his and his wife’s passports.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who rendered the ruling, determined that despite the ten exhibits offered by the Islamic cleric’s attorneys to show that the DSS had taken the passports after his return from India in 2018, the cleric had failed to establish that his passport was missing.

The protesters were seen carrying signs and banners that demanded that President Buhari lift the travel ban on Sheikh El-Zakzaky. “.

Additionally, there have been unconfirmed reports of shootings at the demonstrations.

More information will be provided later.
