Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia, dismisses political appointees

All of Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s political appointees have been given the go-ahead to dissolve immediately.

This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday by the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Chris Ezem.

A lawyer named Ezem said those impacted include senior special assistants, special advisers, and technical advisers.

This suggests that state commissioners were unaffected.

In addition, the governor instructs the state accountant general to make sure that all appointees receive their March 2023 stipends right away, according to Ezem.

According to the SSG, the governor thanked the fired appointees for their contributions and services to the state and also wished them luck in their future endeavors.

The dismissal came days after Okey Ahiwe, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor, lost to Labour Party (LP) candidate Alex Otti in the state’s 18 March governorship election.

Otti, the LP candidate, received 172,386 votes to defeat Ahiwe, the PDP candidate and his nearest challenger, who received 88,174 votes.

Remember that Enyinnaya Abaribe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance beat out Governor Ikpeazu in the Abia South District for the Senate seat.

The removal of the political appointees also occurs just a day after Otti, the incoming governor, raised concerns about the state government’s involvement in late-night employment racketeering in the State.

Ikpeazu, on the other hand, refuted the claim and noted that even if it were accurate, his administration had the authority to appoint government workers if it so chose because it had “executive powers to run the affairs of the state.”.

On May 29, when Mr. Ikpeazu’s term as governor expires, Otti is anticipated to take office.
