Peterside Idah, a former goalkeeper with the Super Eagles, has demanded that head coach Jose Peseiro be fired.
Peterside, who led the Super Eagles to second place in the recently ended Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), maintained that the Portuguese should be fired.
Remember In Sunday’s decisive match, Nigeria lost to the home team, Ivory Coast, 2-1.
Ivory Coast’s triumph brought their record to three AFCON titles, matching Nigeria’s three-time record.
Peterside believes that even though Peseiro guided the Super Eagles to their first AFCON championship since 2013, he should not be allowed to stay on the team.
The former international questioned the coach’s defensive strategy, claiming it is novel for the nation.
“You know, a lot of people asked me yesterday, the coach made it to the championship,” he stated on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Monday.
How do you feel? “Fire him,” I exclaimed.
“Let me make it a little bit lighter for us, when we were younger, we used to shout ‘aaa, ooo’ while watching Nigeria’s game; what that sound signifies is that our football as a Nation is pass-based,” he remarked in response to the question of whether Nigerian football had an identity.
