Using the phone number of Cross River government, scammers attempt to obtain aid

Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, received orders from criminals who broke into his phone number early on Sunday morning.

According to a statement from Emmanuel Ogbeche, the governor’s chief press secretary, the criminals have allegedly sent out unsolicited messages from Governor Bassey Otu asking for cash assistance.

The public is cautioned not to accept such communications by the statement.

“It is kindly advised that the public ignore any messages allegedly from the Governor.”

Cybercriminals gained access to one of the governor’s cellphone numbers early on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

The compromised number has now been used by the hackers to further their evil intentions and deceive other people. Please resist giving in to such a cunning attempt.

However, the statement also stated that the compromised number has been secured and that the appropriate law enforcement agencies are attempting to identify and detain the perpetrators of the offensive act.
