Mr. Macaroni Requests the Freedom of the EndSARS Protesters Currently in Detention

Three years after the #EndSARS protests, many of the protestors are still in custody, and popular comedian and campaigner Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has appealed for their release.

On Friday, Mr. Macaroni spoke during a peace walk he was organizing in Lagos to mark the third anniversary of the Lekki shooting, the horrific act that ultimately put an end to the #EndSARS protests.

He remarked,

The purpose of the peace walk is to remember those we lost on October 20, 2020. We’ve already taken care of that. The police are against us walking back, but we really need to.

The last thing we want to do is give them a pretext to start shooting at us. After three years, we have a good idea of what they are capable of.

To all the [protesters] still in jail, I urge your immediate and unconditional release.

Some protestors who were arrested in 2020 are still being held in jail. Different voices are being heard every day, but the lawyers are still working on the cases.

In a statement, organizers said, “We are using this walk to once again call on all those concerned to grant the unconditional release of all protesters that are still in prison.”
