Ladan Bosso, the Flying Eagles’ “LORD”

Posted by

According to the story, Ladan Bosso was reappointed to head the same squad, which he had previously commanded four times without producing a winning output in the previous seventeen years.

Bosso has been traveling back and forth between his base and the Flying Eagles camp since 2007, giving the impression that he is the team’s leader. Maybe Flying Eagles under Bosso has been like an ABIKU kid, dying and then returning to haunt Nigeria (sorry, Prof. Wole Soyinka). Under Bosso, the team has been stumbling and faltering, although he is always the preferred candidate or the Special One for the position.

What makes Bosso different from instructors like Monday Odigie of Bendel Insurance, one must wonder? Kennedy Boboye of Sunshine Stars, what about him? Or Agoye Edith?

If Bosso personally said to NFF, “Thank you sirs for this honor but I think I have outgrown this team,” wouldn’t it be just and honorable? Bosso would have been promoted to the Super Eagles, the CHAN (Home Based Eagles), or the U-23 Eagles if he had performed as well on the National U-20 squad.

It begs the question, “Why is Imama Amakapabo, who coached the U-23 Eagles, left out in the cold?” if Bosso continues to emerge as the Flying Eagles’ coach. If the NFF believes that Bosso is a good fit for the Flying Eagles, then I dare to claim that Imama is a superior coach and shouldn’t be disregarded.

Other choices

We can all agree based on consistency and the experience the former captain of the Super Eagles has gained thus far that Joseph Yobo, who supported Gernot Rohr in the Super Eagles, is a strong candidate for the NFF.

As I previously stated, Monday Odigie from Bendel Insurance is capable of doing a significantly better job. Remember that Odigie has collaborated with Samson Siasia on squads for the Flying Eagles and the Olympic Eagles, respectively? At this level, he (Odigie) possesses the necessary experience.

Oladunni Oyekale, a former player for the Flying Eagles, is another candidate for this position. The same is true for former internationals Edith Agoye and Kennedy Boboye.

How about Blankson Tosan and Moses Aduku, who have excelled throughout the years with the female teams? Is there a legislation that suggests they are incapable of managing a men’s team? At one point, didn’t the late Paul Hamilton coach the Super Falcons? But at one point, he was the coach of the Super Eagles?

•Bosso captained Nigeria’s Under-20 squad, the Flying Eagles, who were defeated by Chile in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinals.

Bosso guided Flying Eagles to the second place in the WAFU U-20 Nation Cup in 2009.

Bosso was fired in 2009 after the Flying Eagles placed third in the 2009 African Youth Championship, also known as the U-20 AFCON.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reappointed Bosso as head coach of the Flying Eagles U-20 football squad in September 2020.

In the FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinal, South Korea defeated Nigeria’s Flying Eagles 1-0 in overtime on June 8, 2023 in La Plata.

Why is Bosso always the boss?

Should Bosso be deemed a candidate for the quota system, the NFF would be remiss to portray Bosso as the greatest coach his geopolitical zone has to offer.
