Bolaji Agbede is appointed as the acting CEO of Access Holdings

Bolaji Agbede has been named as the holding company’s acting group chief executive officer (GCEO), according to a Monday announcement from Access Holdings Plc.

Herbert Wigwe, the company’s late group chief executive officer, passed away on Friday in a helicopter crash in the United States. This appointment comes after his death. Along with Mr. Wigwe, Abimboloa Ogunbanjo, the former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, and his wife both passed away.

The company said in a statement on Monday that Ms. Bolaji Agbede has been appointed as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of the Company, following the unfortunate demise of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, on February 9, 2024. This announcement is in addition to the one made by the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) on February 11, 2024.

With almost three decades of work experience spanning banking and business consulting services, Ms. Agbede joined Access Bank in 2003 as an Assistant General.

Before being designated the company’s founding Executive Director, Business Support in 2022, she held a number of positions at the bank, including Head, Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022.

Bolaji Agbede is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, according to the statement. She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics from the University of Lagos and her master’s degree in business administration from Cranfield University in the UK in 2002.

The appointment is contingent to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s confirmation.

The company’s chairman, Abubakar Jimoh, stated, “Ms. Bolaji Agbede’s appointment is in line with our robust succession planning practices.”

“We firmly believe that Ms. Agbede, as the most senior executive of the company, would provide the crucial leadership to guide the organization toward realizing its strategic vision of creating an ecosystem and community that is globally connected and inspired by AAfrica for the world. She possesses an exceptionally rich professional background and a deep understanding of the Access culture.”
