The UK is getting ready to make new rules that might stop Nigerian and other foreign students from bringing their families with them when they study in the UK.

The Sun UK has reported that the crackdown is expected to be announced this week.

Under the new rules, postgraduate students, including those doing Master’s degrees, can’t bring their families to the UK.

The UK media says that PhD students who study for 3 to 5 years won’t be affected by the ban since they are very skilled.

These changes are happening because many people are moving to the UK. More than 1 million people have moved there, which has made some leaders worried. They want the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, to do something about this.

UK leaders might make immigration policies stricter soon to manage more people coming to the country. They will make an announcement about it on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Sun newspaper says that Rishi Sunak is going to defend himself on immigration by explaining that the numbers he is being criticized for happened before he became Prime Minister in February 2022.

More and more people are coming to Britain by using their family member’s student visa.

Last year, students brought a lot more family members to Britain than in 2019 – nine times more! In total, there were 135,788 family members who came with the students.

In the past year, 59,053 Nigerian students brought more than 60,923 of their family members with them.

“A member of the Conservative party said to The Sun on Sunday that we need to improve our control.”
