Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed Lionel Messi in non-penalty goals for club and country on Saturday, scoring in Al-Nassr’s 2-1 victory over Al-Fateh in the Saudi Pro League.
The Portugal captain, who scored the winner in the first leg of the AFC Champions League Round of 16 at Al-Feiha in midweek, opened the scoring against Al-Fateh after just 17 minutes.
Salem Al Najdi equalised for Al-Fateh 12 minutes later.
However, Otavio’s 72nd-minute winner secured all three points for the hosts.
The result puts Al-Nassr four points behind leaders Al-Hilal, who have a game in hand.
However, Ronaldo’s most recent goal was his 715th non-penalty strike for club and country, according to Sport Bible.
The 39-year-old is one point ahead of his arch rival Messi, who plays for MLS team Inter Miami.
