Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president in the election of February 25, 2023, gave N10 million on Thursday to Paul University, Awka, a church-affiliated institution.

As soon as the elections were over, he declared that he would resume his charitable contributions to hospitals and schools, which had to be postponed because of the political campaigns.

Obi explained that the intervention in schools and hospitals was a part of his efforts to improve the infrastructure in such public institutions and build human capital in Nigeria. He recalled that prior to the campaigns, he was making monthly visits to at least three hospitals and secondary schools to provide support.

He uttered:.
This is a visit that I had planned to make since January of this year, but as you are aware, I was active in campaigns. I did not want my work in the health and education sectors to be associated with politics.

“As a person, I try to go to three secondary schools and at least three hospitals each month. The check I have for you was written since January of this year, as you will later be able to see on it.

“This Paul University is one of the organizations that gains from my occasional, tiniest intervention.

“I always intervene in the areas of health and education because I think that in order to solve the problems facing this nation, we must invest in human capital development, which includes both of these sectors.

“Elections are over, and since I’m no longer canvassing for votes, now is the perfect time to continue showing my country that I care by doing what I’ve been doing.

“I’m at Paul University to do that. I implore you all to continue acting morally because I am convinced that God will save Nigeria when the time is right. “.

Prof. Obiora Nwosu, the vice chancellor, and Prof. Chinyere Okunna, the deputy chancellor, welcomed Obi to the university. Both had worked with Obi as commissioner and chief of staff while he was the governor of Anambra State.
