A Kano Shari’a court in Kwana Hudu on Friday imposed a nine-month prison term on an Opay agent named Rabi’u Isah Gaida.

He was charged with breach of trust, fraud, and theft of N300,000 belonging to one Zubairu Murtala through an online bank transfer in front of a Shari’a court.

The victim (Zubairu), who gave the defendant his phone to open an Opay wallet account for him, allegedly complained that the defendant stole his N300,000 through an online transfer without his permission. The prosecutor, Aliyu Abidin, explained this to the court.

The accused entered a plea of guilty after having the charges read to him, claiming that he had used the funds to place a wager with BetNaija.

The presiding judge, Nura Yusuf Ahmad, sentenced him to three months for breach of trust and six months for theft. She also required him to pay back the N300,000 that had been stolen.
