The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials who were kidnapped in Zamfara’s Maradun Local Government Area on Monday have been freed.

On their way to the state collation center in Gusau, they were reportedly kidnapped in the hometown of Governor Bello Matawalle.

The officials were stopped and taken to an undisclosed location while en route to deliver the results of the governorship election for the Maradun local government.

However, the INEC public relations representative in the state told reporters that the released officials were headed to Gusau to deliver the results after they had been released.
