A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government, has sentenced two middle-aged men to three years imprisonment for stealing school property worth N155,000 in Ondo State.

The accused, Emmanuel Akinde, 22, and Abdulateef Magaji, 30, were charged before sentencing with three counts of conspiracy and theft. The duo are alleged to have committed offenses contrary to Section 516, 413(1) and 356(2) of Chapter 37 Volume 1 of the Penal Code, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006.

According to the police prosecutor, Benard Olagbayi, the crime occurred at Rheo Kiddies School in the Saab market area of ​​the state.

Oragbay says:

“Abdulateef Magaji and Emmanuel Akinde conspired to commit burglary and theft on May 21, 2023 at about 11:30am at Sabo market area of ​​Ondo in Ondo Magisterial District.

“2023.
On the 22nd of May, at about 3am, Abdulateef Magaji and Emmanuel Akinde illegally jumped the fence of Rheo Kiddies School on Adekugbe Street, Ondo Sabo in the same magisterial area and committed the crime within the school premises. “On the same date, time and place in the above magisterial area, they trespassed into the shop of Rheo Kiddies School and stole several items including a trolley valued at N20,000, electrocardiographs (egg beater) valued at N80,000, Main pots valued at N5,000, angle irons valued at N20,000 worth, four framed window screens worth N20,000 and some electricity and mains cables worth N1,000.

Pleading guilty to the charges brought against them, prosecutors urged the court to sentence the criminals at their request.

Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju then convicted the defendants and sentenced them to three years in prison. However, Magistrate Adejanju allowed the accused to be fined N200,000 each.
