On Wednesday, some commercial bus drivers using the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway started a protest against alleged extortion by “Agbero” touts at the express’ toll-gate area.

Reporters were given statements from some of the commuters who were left stranded by the drivers, who said that the protest was unfortunate because it caused the general public unnecessary suffering.

The Lagos-Abeokuta expressway’s Toll-Gate area was affected by the protest as people were seen walking great distances to get where they needed to go.

Some of the protesters were seen carrying placards bearing various slogans, including “We are tired of Agberos extortion,” “We can’t continue working for Agberos,” and others.

Bimbo Apata, a worker at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, claimed he had spent more than two hours at the bus stop waiting for a bus, but all of his attempts had failed.

To make it to work on time, Mr. Apata claimed he had no choice but to turn to trekking.

“The pain was excessive. People had to walk a long way to get to their various destinations because they couldn’t take buses, he said.
