A meeting over the escalating cost of cement has been called by David Umahi, the Minister of Works.

He voiced concern that cement prices were skyrocketing despite the fact that road and housing contractors heavily patronized cement producers.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Mabushi, Abuja. The statement was issued on Saturday by Orji Uchenna Orji, the Minister’s Special Adviser (Media).

“The Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency, David Umahi CON, has called an urgent meeting of all cement manufacturers in Nigeria,” part of the message said.

“Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, Larfarge, and others are invited.”

According to the Minister, there is a significant difference between the ex-factory price and the market price. We will investigate the issues faced by manufacturers, as is well known. In order to find a common front, we must investigate the current state of affairs as well as other matters.
