A 60-year-old man and his two sons have been detained by the police in Bauchi for allegedly attacking and hurting a member of the Federal Road Safety Corps while they were on patrol.

They were also alleged to have burned down the FRSC patrol van.

The FRSC operatives who were on duty along the Bauchi-Gombe road stopped the suspects, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, who confirmed the incident to journalists over the phone. However, the driver refused to stop.

He claimed that the suspects, Umar Gwallaga (60), his two sons, Nasiru Umar Gwallaga (42) and his younger brother, Usman Umar Gwallaga (39), were traveling from Bauchi to Gombe in a Mitsubishi Pajero Jeep when they were stopped.

Superintendent of Police Wakil stated:.

“On March 7, 2023, at around six o’clock in the morning, Nasiru Umar, 42, of Gwallaga, Bauchi, Bauchi State, loaded his family into his Mitsubishi Pajero Jeep and drove them to Gombe State.

When a patrol team from the FRSC arrived at Tashan Durumi village in the Kirfi LGA, they stopped the car but the driver wouldn’t stop. They were carrying out their tactical stop-and-search duties.

He was traveling from Gombe to Bauchi when he was stopped and asked to provide the vehicle’s information. He then got out of the car and attacked Anas Aliyu, a member of the FRSC, inflicting a dislocation on his hand.

His father, Umar Ahmed Gwallaga, 60, and his younger brother, Usman Umar Gwallaga, 39, joined him in attacking the personnel as he went on to attack the patrol team driver and set the patrol van on fire, according to Wakil.

He continued:.
“At this time, the suspect and his accomplices are being held in police custody at Kirfi Police Division.

“The DPO Kirfi is to conduct preliminary inquiries while the case file should be transferred to the SCIIB for additional discrete inquiries, according to CP Aminu Alhassan, the commissioner of police. The Police Command would bring an arson case against the suspects to court if they were found to be lacking. ”.

The police spokesman emphasized that the state commissioner of police advised the public to always respect and obey personnel who are performing their legitimate duties, warning that no offender would be spared and that anyone found guilty would be made to suffer the full force of the law.

Meanwhile, the Sector Command reported that on April 7, 2023, the FRSC Bara Unit Command’s patrol team along the Bara-Gombe road came into contact with an offender driving a Mitsubishi Pajero Jeep with the VIN number BAU 976HB at about 3:05 p.m. The report, titled “Mob Attack on Patrol Team,” was submitted to the Sector Command by the FRSC Bara Unit Command.

“As a result of the encounter, the patrol car caught fire and was completely destroyed. The perpetrator was detained by police after being arrested. ”.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, denounced the incident and called it extremely regrettable.

He questioned why people would use the law against others without good reason.

In order to serve as a deterrent to others, Abdullahi pledged that the FRSC will pursue the case to a logical conclusion and ensure that justice is served.
