At the scene of the Osun road crash, the FRSC recovers N27.1m while six people pass away

Six people lost their lives in a fatal multi-car collision on Tuesday morning, April 4, 2023. The vehicle identification numbers (N27.171, 400, and N21,900) have been found at the scene.

The Osun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps was able to recover the money.

The accident report states that on the Ipetu-Ilesa axis of the Ilesa-Akure highway, a green Zafira Opel Saab with the license plate GBA 440XA and a red Toyota Sienna with the plate KTU 896HX were traveling in opposing directions when they collided.

Agnes Ogungbemi, the Osun FRSC Sector Public Education Officer, who confirmed the incident, said that N27.171,400 was given to the victims’ families while N21,900 belonged to the driver and was given to the Ijebu-Ijesa police.

11 males and 3 females were involved in the accident. Only one person was unharmed, while six men lost their lives, seven others suffered serious injuries. The bodies were brought to the hospital morgue while the injured victims were taken to Wesley Hospital Ilesa, according to Ogunyemi.

The Ipetu-Ijesa unit commander, deputy corps commander, Bamide Ayanwale, blamed the accident on reckless overtaking and excessive speed in an interview with Radio Nigeria correspondent Isaac Haastrup shortly after presenting the funds to the victims’ relatives, who were represented by leaders of the Hausa communities in Ijesaland.

He issued a warning to the motorists using the Ipetu-Ijesa highway to drive cautiously in order to prevent personal injury and property damage.
